It seems that the new tend in above ground pools has caught fire. As a result more and more people every day are choosing them as a sensible alternative to expensive cement built in pools. For on thing, a quality above ground pool can be just as attractive and as much of an asset to a homes value as a a cement built in pool only it takes a fraction of the time and inconveniences to have installed.
A Deep End and Diving Board
The fact is, that above ground pools are now commonly installed in ground, complete with a deep end and a diving board but of course this does require that some excavation work be done before hand. This can bring the overall cost of the installation of an above ground pool up dramatically.
The Expense of Excavation
Professional excavators and heavy equipment operators charge by the hour and their hourly rates can run as much as $200 per hour. So, needles to say, this can be a factor that turns many above ground pool owners away from the “in ground” option.
The Rental Option
What many people don't know however, is that a backhoe and a dump truck can be rented for as little as $25 per hour at their local rental yard. However; this does present the problem of just who is going to operate it and who is going to drive the dump truck.
Don't Be Afraid to Try
The fact is, that if you can operate a car with a stick shift you can most likely operate both. It does take a little bit of practice to get the hang of the backhoe but in a few minutes with a little instruction you will be able to scoop dirt with it and place it in the dump truck.
Check for Utilities First
The rental yard will have a person that can show you how to operate the levers and they will also most likely provide you with a simple to understand instruction manual. However; before you dig in any populated area you will first want to head down to the city planning office and check their map for any underground utilities.
