Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, a bitter opponent of gun laws and other restrictions to the Second Amendment, has recently been overcome with relief upon receiving news that the U.S. Supreme Court will be accepting for review the case of District of Columbia v. Heller. Front Sight and its founder and director, Ignatius Piazza, have called the District of Columbia's handgun ban unconstitutional, and in direct opposition to the Second Amendment, for years, and now the U.S. Supreme Court will soon be ruling on the case, and most conjecture is that the U.S. Supreme Court will have no choice but to rule the ban in violation of the Second Amendment.
The fact that Front Sight annually delivers firearms training to more students than all other major shooting schools combined is good evidence for why Front Sight stands in such opposition to a ban in the District of Columbia which restricts handguns in all private residences and requires that all shotguns and rifles be rendered inoperable. Front Sight's wild success is due to the guiding hand of Ignatius Piazza, who has kept the philosophy of Front Sight "Duty to Serve" and "Exchange in Abundance" since its inception.
Front Sight and Ignatius Piazza are, obviously, firm advocates of not only gun ownership, but also gun training. According to them, firearms training makes responsible citizens. Gun training allows for citizens to fully protect themselves, their families and their loved ones. Front Sight and Ignatius Piazza realize the importance of firearms training and protection in today's day and age; violent crime is on the rise, murder rates are climbing, and gun laws are increasing! But according to Front Sight and Ignatius Piazza, when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns!
The fact that taking guns from citizens makes them unsafe is not only true in the sense that guns are what prevent them from being safe from murderers and criminals, but guns are also what keep citizens safe from the government. The government must be afraid of its populace. Why else would governments go to such ends to keep guns out of the hands of its populace unless they wanted to make sure that no one could resist the government? Gun training doesn't just keep citizens safe from murderers, firearms training also keeps citizens safe from the oppressive hand of the government.
God forbid the U.S. Government should be overthrown by a rogue general, or something should go terribly wrong in which the U.S. Army turns on the people, but what would keep the armed forces at bay other than an armed populace?
Some actually argue that no matter the level of gun training or firearms training the people have, to think that they'd hold off the U.S. Army is ridiculous. To that, the example of Iraq can be made. A mostly untrained, almost completely devastated, poor populace is causing continual headaches for the American armed forces.
Gun training is absolutely vital. Firearms training should be as part and parcel to American education as understanding of citizens' right to fair trial and freedom of press is. Front Sight and Ignatius Piazza stand on the side of liberty. The U.S. Supreme Court likely will, too, and call the D.C. ban in violation of the Second Amendment.
