Most of us are always trying different ways to lose weight, but if you have a special event that you want to lose a few pounds for and don’t have the time then your clothes could hold the key. Choosing the right thing to wear can literally take pounds off you in minutes. Here is a small guide on things you may want to consider.
General Tips
First let’s consider some general hints and tips that will help anyone and then we can look at some trouble spots in more detail.
1. Wear Black. Black is a very flattering colour and as will other very dark colours has an automatic slimming property.
2. Wear All One Colour. This will not only give you the appearance of being taller but also make you look slimmer. If you wear different colours on top compared to your bottom it can have the effect of making you look short and stocky.
3. Don’t worry about the Size. The sizes in just about every shop vary enormously, so you may be a size 8 in one, 10 in another and 12 in another still. It is less important to squeeze into that smaller size than it is to ensure the size you pick fits you perfectly.
4. Stay Away from Clothes that are Too Tight. Wearing clothes that squeeze you in will often push lump of out somewhere else, all this does is make the fat look more obvious and unattractive.
5. Avoid Clothes that are too loose. You may think wearing loos clothes will hide your fat. You are wrong, they will tend to make you look bigger and can have a tent effect on your body. Find clothes that fit you just right and you will be doing ok.
Specific Problem Areas
Now let’s look at some common problem areas and what you can do to slim them.
1. The Stomach. Many women suffer with a bit of extra fat around the stomach area. The key to hiding them is to draw attention away from your stomach. Below is a list of what you should and shouldn’t wear:
a. Wear fabric that flows over the stomach rather than clings to it.
b. Wear tops or dresses with a low neck line and that pull in below the bust and then flare out slightly. This will draw attention to your bust and away from your stomach. Keep the flare subtle though, you don’t want to look pregnant.
c. Wear trousers that do not have a bulk zip at the front. If they are flat around the stomach area it will help to make your stomach look flatter.
d. Stay away from clothes with a tight waistline. This will only help to create a bulge over the top.
e. Do not wear tops or dresses that cling to your body. They will only draw attention to your stomach
f. Do not wear tops that are too short and end before the start of your trousers or skirt. This will put your stomach on full display.
2. The Backside. Although it can be seen as a good thing to have a big bum, it is not everyone’s ideal. If you are trying to make yours look smaller follow the below tips:
a. Wear fabric that flows over your backside and does not cling to it
b. Look for skirts that fit round your backside and then flare out slightly. This will help to balance out your backside.
c. Again with trousers and jeans, those that fit you round the backside and then flare out from the knee will have the balancing effect.
d. Look for jackets that are long and form fitting.
e. Don’t wear tight dresses, these will only make your bum look big.
f. Stay away from clothes with large prints, these will make big areas look bigger.
g. Never, ever wear skinny jeans, these will make your bum look bigger immediately.
h. Don’t wear trousers with pockets at the back, you will only add extra bulk to you backside.
i. Don’t wear jackets that lack shape or that stop just at the top of you backside.
3. The Hips & Thighs. The best tip to making your hips and thighs look smaller is to avoid clothes with bulky fabric or hemlines in the problem areas. Below are our main dos and don’ts:
a. Wear long coats with large lapels. This will draw the attention away from your hips.
b. Try wearing long tops that fit you well and finish below the hips. This will help to lengthen and thin you.
c. Wear dark colours, keeping them the same on top and bottom.
d. Never wear jackets that end at your hips widest point.
e. Again, as with the bum, stay away from skinny jeans.
Follow these tips and you will be well on your way to a newer, thinner you.
