The process of candle burning is perhaps the oldest method of aromatherapy. The burning of joss sticks, made from aromatic herbs, was a tradition started by the ancient Chinese over six thousand years ago to honor their gods. Aromatherapy, with its unseen energies is part of a fragrant world.
In aromatherapy flowers, leaves and fruit are used to make the essential oils. Therapeutic properties are derived in concentrated amounts during distillation when the oil is extracted and used to improve health.
You control the amount of scent and coloring that is used when you make your own aromatherapy candles. You can experiment with different oils and find a scent you like. Supplies that you may need include a double boiler, wicks, a pound of Paraffin, crayons, 1/3 pound of Beeswax, the oils and molds (you can purchase some or make your own). A cleaner burning may be achieved by using soy wax along with other healthy benefits for the environment and you such as being all vegetable, lasting 50% longer, non-toxic, 100% biodegradable and you should note that consumers, the green segment, believe this is a better alternative to Parrafin.
When it comes time to put the wick inside of the mold try taking a pencil, winding the wick around it and laying it on the mold until you are done. Next put the beeswax and paraffin into the double boiler and melt. For adding a little color to your candle add some crayon shavings to the wax. If you need a quick way to add shavings take a cheese grater and shave your crayon over the wax. Be careful not to add too much of the crayon or your candle may end up smelling like one. Add your essential oils beginning with a drop or two so it will have just the right amount of scent, otherwise you will defeat the aromatherapy purpose by being too strong. After pouring into the molds trim the wick to about inch once it has cooled. For a pleasing atmosphere place some aromatherapy candles around your home. Possibly buying the candles from a store would be easier and quicker, but creating your own personal fragrance can only be done by making them yourself. Some say the best part of making these candles is that the process is still very calming and relaxing as well it should be with aromatherapy.
