Thin sheets of ABS plastics are generally used to make the shell of the units. The tub is then finally piped and plumbed by all the necessary pipes. The foam is used to protect and give support to the weak shell of the unit of the tubs.
The manufacturers of these cheap hot tubs also use low quality and cheap foam. There are a number of disadvantages of these cheap hot tubs- the extraction and contraction in the foam can even cause leaks in the plumbing.
Also you cannot access the internal parts of the hot tub when servicing is required to be done. So servicing cannot be done for the whole lifetime. If a fully foamed spa leaks from the rear, it truly cannot be detected till the foam gets wet.
Plumbing and also jet fitting get buried in the expanded foam so it becomes very much difficult for the plumber to check and service the various parts of the bath tub.
A large number of manufacturers use a large quantity of foam so as to keep the noise of all the pipes fitted inside down.
